Zechariah 13:9

And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried; they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God. Zechariah 13:9

She's 5, He's 21

Yep, more birthdays!
Somehow they just keep happening every single year, no matter what! :)

Oakley turned 5 on the 3rd of October.
She is very much a girly girl and loves fancy things.
So, the theme for her birthday was "Princess."

Happy Birthday, Oakley!  We love you!

Solomon turned 21 on the 22nd.
We celebrated on Sunday evening with an ice-cream cake when we were at family picnic.

Happy 21st, Solomon!  You are now officially an adult!
We are proud of you!
Hope you enjoyed your birthday working in New Jersey!  :(

Until next time.........

She's 3, He's 16, She's 24, He's 27

I forgot to post Morgan's 3rd birthday, which was July 29th.
Here she is with her big sister!

She wanted a Macaroni & Cheese Cake, so that is what she got!
She has a very creative mommy!  :)

What a fun blessing Morgan is to our family!
Love her so much!

I also forgot Gordon's 27th birthday in July and Kelsey's 24th birthday in Sept..  Probably because we didn't have a party for either of them for some reason or maybe just the fact that I am getting old and forgot to take pictures! :(
We are very proud and love both of them very much!

And then we have George, who turned 16 on the 16th of this month.
A few of his friends came in the afternoon after our co-op and stayed for supper.

We surprised him at his youth group, though! Yes!  So fun!
Here, Korinne, the youth leader, made him stand on his chair to tell us about his birthday.  :)

16!
Can't believe it!

May this new stage of life, the stage where you learn to legally drive on the road, George, bring many fun and safe times for you!
We love you , too!  :)

Until next time..........

A Teenager is Uriah!

Today marks the beginning of Uriah's teen years!  Already!

We celebrated Sunday evening.
He wanted his cousins to come over to play and it ended up being a family reunion.

Burgers & hotdogs over the fire
and lots of other good food

Good conversation with Dave's parents

mom, Karen, Brent & Denise

quoit game.....

and now the birthday boy!  Him & I love to watch the Cake Boss on Netflix, so he requested to make his own cake.  He mixed, baked, made the butter cream icing and decorated.....
and we ate!  Very good!

It is so hard to capture the coziness of an evening fire, but I tried.  What I did unintentionally capture for sure was the two men in our family that appear to have too much knowledge in their heads for hair to stay put.... :)

Happy Birthday dear Uriah!  We love you bunches!

Until next time..........

4, 15, and 23

Oakley Paige turns 4 today

She informed me last evening that when she grows up she is going to be a princess!
Yes, indeed!
It is amazing how different 2 siblings can be.
Oakley is real studious and loves to do books.
Morgan would rather wrestle the boys.
They are so fun!

Great job on the cake, Kelsey!

Sept. 12th, Kelsey turned 23 yrs old and on the 16th George turned 15.  Neither of them cared to have a party, but I was able to get them to pose for a picture at least!

Happy Birthday to the everyone!

Until next time.....

Now She is 2!

Today, Morgan turned 2!
She is a lively, outgoing little lady,
 a best friend to Oakley
and big sister to Toby.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Morgan!  We love you bunches!

On Father's Day, a picture was taken of Dave and the boys.
Here is one of Dave and his girls....

and the rest of Kelsey's family.....

Time sure hurries on!
We remember when Kelsey was just a little girl and now
she has her own family!

We love having them live close and being able to see them often!

Until next time.......

He Is Now 12

Happy 12th Birthday to Uriah James!

The age of 12 means hunting!
Saturday I took him to Cabela's for his Hunter's Safety Course.
It was a full class and it was taught by a long ago farm buddy of Dave's and a classmate to both of us, Jeff Walters.  He did a great job with the class!

Uriah passed and received his orange card, allowing him to get his license, which we did today.  So, this year, the hunter's in this family will be George, Uriah and guess who?  Me!  I decided that if I am going to go sit out with the boys, I may as well carry a gun and shoot the ones they miss!  : )  Just kidding!  It is the other way around hands down!  I would be fortunate to hit one standing close to me!  But, it would be fun to try!  And if you would see what those critters are doing to our corn, you would want to join me!
Read about George's sharp shooting here.
Sometime, I will have to share my "crying" and "yelling" hunting stories from long ago.  I am hoping I am beyond the crying stage if the gun jams again!

Uriah wanted ice-cream sandwiches for his treat.  We decided that we would rather make them, especially since Breyer's is running a sale this week - 2 for $5.
I used a rice krispie candy recipe, but used Kix and Organic cheerios instead of Rice Krispies.
Pretty yummy stuff!

Happy Birthday, Uriah!  What a blessing you are to all of us!!

Until next time..............

Best Gift for Our Birthdays!

This month marks 47 years for both Dave & I - on the 1st for me - on the 10th for him.  They were very low key days, no big celebrations and that was fine with me.  However, we both received a wonderful gift!  A new grandson!

Toby Nelson David was born on May 8th - strong, healthy and just adorable!

Welcome to our family sweet Toby and Happy Birthday to us!!

Until next time......

Double Digits for Oliver

10 years old is such a milestone in a child's life.  Sounds more grown up than just plain old number 9.   Oliver made that milestone yesterday, the 4th.  To think that our youngest is now in the double digits is a thought that Dave & I aren't sure we are comfortable with.  Too bad, though, right?  Can't stop growing up from happening, so we stop, take a look at our children, increase the hugging, and remind ourselves to take more pictures!!

At Oliver's first exam in the hosp. after his birth, the Dr. heard a heart murmur.  Knowing the history of Solomon's congenital heart condition, the Dr. sent Oliver for an echo.  Sure enough, he also had a coarctation of the aorta.  They prepped him to be flown to Hershey for surgery.  At 3 days old, Oliver had the narrowing repaired, which was done through the ribs on his left side.  He spent 5 days in the PICU and was sent home with a nervous mama and papa.  He thrived and grew quickly.

However, like Solomon, he had a weakness for croup.  Over the last few years, whenever he got a simple cold, it escalated quickly into a tight cough and the need for meds that aren't good for a person.  These episodes became more frequent and more frustrating.  At the beginning of January, this year, we saw a pulmonary specialist at Hershey.  She suspected he has reflux, which was confirmed with an Upper GI.  We then saw a GI specialist, who also wanted to do some tests.  Fact - reflux can cause respiratory illness - just in case you didn't know. :)  Today, Oliver had a bronchoscopy (where they take a look at the airway with a scope) and endoscopy (taking a look at the esophagus and stomach) done at Hershey.  Both tests looked good, but we still have to wait for biopsies to come back.  He was a trooper today!  So proud of him!  However, I became a wreck!  First of all, they wanted Dave & I in the room till he was put to sleep.  I wanted to be there for Oliver's sake and he remembers us rubbing his arm and legs while he went to sleep.  But, watching the Dr. put that mask over his face and watching Oliver slowly lose conscientiousness is not a picture I want to store in my mind.  It was my undoing.  I know that I have shared before that I have scars from all the scary medical events we had with our children.  Scars are the markings of hidden pain and scary memories and sometimes those scars open up and all the hidden is relived.  That is what happens to me and today was one of those times.  I relived the anxious moments in that waiting room and hallway, the anxious moments of standing beside the boys cribs wondering when, or if, they would come home.  Hershey Hosp. is a great place!  They save lives, just like they did for Solomon and Oliver.  But inside those walls are many parents, children, brothers and sisters, and grandparents every day experiencing anxious moments for loved ones.  Life moves on and those moments, including the feelings and emotions, become past tense, but for me, and probably many other people, they remain in our minds and hearts forever.  Maybe for some, it a mother thing, or personality thing, a perspective thing or what ever else thing, but I know it is a real thing.  I also know that words of thanksgiving can be proclaimed from the silo tops, for we can celebrate each birthday knowing what a gift, what a blessing, our children really are.  Thank you, Heavenly Father!

Happy 10th birthday, Oliver.  We loved you meal selection of mashed potatoes, meatballs and corn and you did a great job decorating your big cookie!

Until next time................

Our Ben.....

....just turned 24 years old!  Every time his birthday rolls around, I am filled all over again with thankfulness for his life.  Ben was born at 27 1/2 weeks gestation, 3 months premature.  He was due on March 30th, but arrived January 1st instead, weighing in at 2# 4 oz. (he went as low as 1# 14 oz).  The reason for his prematurity is because I have an incompetent cervix, which we did not know about until I went into labor with him.  An emergency C-section was performed after a weekend of trying to stop my labor.  Ben spent 98 days in the NICU at the Reading Hospital, during which time he almost died several times.  This NICU had only opened in Sept. before Ben was born and he was the 2nd preemie who was born there.

Day he was born....

Because the NICU was new, we were featured in the Reading Eagle.....

This is the day he was finally able to come home, weighing 4# 14 oz.  He came home wearing a monitor for a few months, because he still had trouble with his breathing.

One year old....

The NICU had a 1 year reunion.  This was Dr. "K", who was Jewish and gave the best of care to Ben.  On several occasions we would find him sitting and holding Ben when we came in for our visit.  Him and the rest of the staff became our family.

Life moved on, Ben had his health struggles, but seemed to eventually outgrow them. We could write a book on his journey, but to tell you the truth, while writing this blog and looking through his pictures, sobs want to rise within me.  The memories are very alive.......   Ben has grown into a man, a man who is sensitive, caring and extremely positive.  You will never hear him complain!  and he is the one who usually lifts us up when life gets us down.  Thanks, Ben, for who you are and for what you teach us.  God has a plan for you......
We love you and Happy 24th!  We celebrated with family, straw hats, waffles and ice-cream.

Until next time...............

Only 364 more days........

and he will no longer be a teen!  His birthday was yesterday, but we celebrated on Sunday with cake, ice-cream, and volleyball with friends and family.   Happy 19th birthday, Solomon.  Thanks for being an insightful, responsible man! We love you!

Until next time...........

3 Yrs. Old and 26 Years Ago

As of yesterday, Oakley is now 3 yrs. old - going on 6. :-)  She is a pretty little lady who knows her colors, is learning to draw and adores Shaun the Sheep.  She really wanted a snazzy red sportscar for her birthday, but instead received a bike, which she seemed quite pleased with anyway.  Happy 3rd birthday, Oakley, we love you bunches!
Her mommy did a great job on Shaun the Sheep cake, who by the looks of Oakley's candle placement, took up smoking......

Today, 26 years ago, my bestie & I said "I do" and we "did" ever since.  He truly is the best thing that ever happened to me, .  We have experienced some rough sessions during our marriage boot camp, and I am positive we will have more, for we still seem to be human no matter how hard we try not to be.  Heehee!  But, sticking together is not one of the multiple choice options in our marriage - it the only correct answer!  And so very worth it!

Would repeat is all over again - except we would have a smaller wedding next time..........

It is obvious that we have gained, and lost, some things! Wonder how that happened!  Sneeky, for sure!

Until next time.........

14 Years Old

Yesterday, the 16th, was Georgie's, opps!  I mean George's 14th birthday.  He informed me Georgie sounds too childish, so now it is George!!  He also informed me that he does not want a party, a cake, or anything.  But, Oliver wanted to make him cupcakes and I allowed him to do that.  What is a birthday without something

Our church family did something different yesterday.  We gathered at 8:30 for breakfast around a campfire in the woods.  Scrambled eggs, bacon, baked oatmeal, fruit and birthday cupcakes.  Was delicious!  And even more different, we took communion sitting around the fire.  It was so neat and special! Every so often the neighbor man would shoot his gun.  We started feeling like we were possibly the next persecuted Christians.  It was a reminder that there are many Christians who realize that if they are caught worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ, they will lose their lives.  We are so blessed with religious freedom - freedom to worship wherever we choose with whoever we choose. Let's not take that for granted, but continue to pray that those freedoms will remain for many, many, MANY more years to come.

Happy Birthday, George!  You are growing into a nice young man!  Love ya gobs!

Until next time..............

Happy Birthday to Kelsey

Today, our one and only daughter turned 22.  She is a kind hearted beautiful woman and we love her dearly!  Happy birthday, Kels, and may the Lord's blessings continue to be with you as serve as a wife and mommy to your little family.  Uriah wanted to make her cake, and he did - a huge cupcake!  It was delicious and looked nice, too.  Thanks Riah!

Until next time......

Morgan is 1 Year Old

Morgan turned 1 on July 29th (I know! I am behind in my postings)!  She toddles all around and makes the cutest/funniest faces at us.  Kelsey had made a bumblebee cake and it was enjoyed by 3 sets of great-grandparents, 2 sets grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.  Happy 1st birthday to Morgan and thank you, Lord, for the blessing of having this sweet little lady in our lives....

Gordon also had a birthday July 11th (yes, I am REALLY behind in my postings of birthdays!) and he turned 25.  Our family was camping at Kevin's that weekend and Kelsey had a cake for him, however, I realize that I didn't take any pictures of him with it.  The only picture I could find was when the boys were playing basketball, so here it it.....

Happy 25th to our favorite son-in-law! :-)

Until next time...........
