Zechariah 13:9

And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried; they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God. Zechariah 13:9

Vacation on the Farm

  • Vacation on the Farm

Milking cows, and all that goes into that, is like housework.  Did you ever notice how the kitchen can be all cleaned up and the dishes all done and the next time you turn around there are dishes in the sink again?  Yep, that is how it is, but I thank God for healthy appetites around here AND for my dishwasher.   Well, the cows get milked every morning and evening, and the routine is the same each time, just like cleaning up the kitchen.  The only difference is that I can let the dishes sit for days, if I choose to, but the cows cannot.  One of my uncles reminded us one time when we were talking about not milking on time, "skin stretches".   That is very true, however, if you do not keep the cows on a schedule the chances of mastitis increase.  So, every morning, evening, 7 days a week, the girls get milked, fed, and the milk house cleaned up.  Not complaining, just stating the facts.  However, after awhile we need some time of refreshment.  Dave does not like to hire a relief milker for 2 reasons, we usually do not have the extra money to pay for one, and we hesitate to leave the source of our income in someone else's hand.  So our vacation time is spent around here.  We love to camp out in our backyard and a few weeks ago, I noticed a free pop-up camper in the local merchandiser.  Now everytime I call about something free in the merchandiser it is always already taken.  This time, it was not!  To top it off, it was only a few miles from our house.  The 3 smaller boys & I went right away to see it, have the title changed over to us and brought it home.  How excited the boys were and how grateful I felt.  The camper was a gift from the Lord to us.  Now we have "The Weidenhammer's Backyard Campground" and how we cherish the times around the campfire and sleeping out.  On Memorial Day weekend, we did just that.

We had rebuilt our campfire ring into a keyhole shape.  Now we can grill on the rack and pull hot coals over into the small oven and make food in a kettle, like eggs & potatoes, or just keep food warm. (Sorry, I can't get picture to rotate)

We decided to have some running water at the campsite....

Gordon & Kelsey brought their tent down on Sunday to camp out with us that night.  In the evening, Dave's parents and my mom came over for hamburgers, baked beans, cheese pie and other yummy food (forget dieting!).  Of course, they had to play a game of quoites.

On Monday, we went swimming in a nearby creek.  What a very fun and relaxing weekend our vacation was.
    Until next time..........
