Zechariah 13:9

And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried; they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God. Zechariah 13:9

My Lost Marbles

Plink, plink, plink
out they rolled with each word that I wrote
"make them journal."

I had wondered if I lost my marbles thinking that having the boys journal for the month of June was a crafty idea (Here)  I am no longer wondering, I now know that I did. On my whim, I thought it all sounded so good, so organized, so creative, however, they didn't like my whim, so I surrendered it.
NO MORE JOURNALING!  And they were relieved.

The funny thing is that the other evening we were all in the garden picking peas and our conversation was about the Romans, different Emperors, and Christian persecution (don't think that I would start a conversation like that!  Blame it on Dave!) :).  Well, Oliver's mind started churning, for he remembered that next year at our home school co-op he will be taking a written and illustrated class and he was going to write about Caesar!  When we got back to the house, he got a composition book and pencil and started writing.  Come bed time, I looked in his room and there he was in his top bunk, wearing his head lamp, writing away!!  Hey, this was better than the journaling idea.  He was being creative, using his imagination and it was not mom's idea!  The moral of the story is...well, I am not certain exactly what the moral is, but if they think of an idea it is much better than mom's and humble pie really is not that awful.

We are also back on the computer, as you can obviously see, but the boys have been choosing to play more games together and playing outside.  Of course, picking peas, stringing peas and cleaning the mess from doing peas have also been keeping them busy.  I realize that it is not a matter of taking away the computer (it's not the computer's fault), it is a matter of discipline in our lives.  We can find ourselves consumed too much with anything, really.  It can be computers, but it also can be talking on the phone, reading books, working, etc..  Self discipline and putting priorities straight is the issue and it can be a hard one!

Now that I settled all that, could I please have my marbles back?  I am really needing them so I can think of another whim.....

Until next time......

The Lactate Consultant and the Dr.

Kelsey is nursing little Toby.  She was having some problems and remembered that she was told that she can call the hosp. and be able to talk to a lactate consultant.  So she called the hosp. and they said that they would transfer her to that dept. just hold on.....

ring...ring....ring...
A deep MALE voice..."Hello"
"ummmm, is this a lactate consultant?"
(dear Kelsey's mind is racing...why do they have a man doing this job?)
'a WHAT?"
"a lactate consultant?"
"WHAT is a lactate consultant?"
"someone who helps women with nursing their babies"
"Oh, God, NO!  I am just a patient!!"

Hospital blooper for sure!!!!

Haven't laughed that hard in a long time.  Visions of this man laying in his hosp. bed and gets a call with that kind of question!   We are hoping that he found it as humorous as we did!

Then she reminded me of another phone call she made in the middle of the night when she went into labor with Morgan.  She needed to call her Dr., so she dialed the number....

ring....ring....ring...
a very sleepy voice, "hello"
"is this Dr. Weiner?"
"who?"
"Dr. Weiner?"
"oh, no, you got the wrong number"

I am sure that poor woman was certain that someone was playing a prank on her.

What makes these calls even more humorous is the fact that Kelsey does NOT like making phone calls and didn't even before she made these 2 calls.  She is just so thankful that she does not know the recipients of her calls and that we can get a good laugh about them.

Until next time.....

Computer Fast So Far

We have made it to day 4 of the computer fast and here I am - on the computer!!

This is what we have learned so far......

It is impossible for me to stay off this thing, due to having to do orders, research, school stuff, news, weather, etc.. How did we do all these things before computer age?  I actually remember using an encyclopedia, reading a newspaper and ordering through catalogs!   Anyway, the last 4 days, I felt guilty being connected, because the boys stayed off their computer and did not complain at all.  Dave & I decided to allow the boys to play on the computer on the weekends as a reward for staying off all week, and I can be on Facebook and blog spot only Sundays.  We are attempting to keep up with the journals, but not with much excitement so far.  We will only journal during the week and not weekends.  We will see how this week goes.  Can we continue for a month?   Verdict is still out.

Here are a few things we did this week.....

Rescued our run-a-way wagon that decided to take a hike down the barn ramp, across the road and over the bank....

discovered we no longer need tractors as long as we have these boys around...... :)

ate our lunch around the campfire.....

and made hay.......

It was a good week!

Until next time.......
